At the boundaries and bridgings between separate fields of knowledge, dramatic things can happen.
- USC President Steven B. Sample

As USC's 10th president, Steven B. Sample has made dramatic things happen for USC. For nearly two decades, he worked tirelessly to expand and enhance USC's service to the world and solidified the university's stature as one of the nation's leading research universities. USC's extraordinary progress would not have been possible without his spectacular vision, energy, inspiration and leadership. Now, on the occasion of his retirement, we call upon the entire Trojan Family to secure his legacy and demonstrate our gratitude for his exemplary achievements.

Renaissance ideals are at the core of President Sample's administration as well as his personal spirit. He is an accomplished engineer, musician and inventor. He is a scholar, best-selling author and great teacher. He is an avid outdoorsman, and he is insatiably curious about the world around us. He is also one of the finest university presidents in all of American higher education. It is no wonder that the USC Renaissance Scholars Program, established by President Sample in 2000, is a signature program at USC, and there is no better way to pay tribute to all that he and First Lady Kathryn Sample have done for our great university than to endow the program to ensure that USC's Renaissance ideals live on in perpetuity.
